SEND Provision
Newburgh has an inclusive approach to teaching children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) which ensures that all pupils achieve their potential; personally, socially, emotionally and academically in all areas of the curriculum, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, physical ability or educational needs.
Here at Newburgh Primary School, we identify children with SEND through the Graduated Approach. Provision for all children is delivered through Quality First Teaching. The four categories of SEND, as stated in the 2014 SEN Code of Practice, are Cognition and Learning, Communication and interaction, SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) and Physical/Sensory.
Where it has been identified that a meeting a child's needs extends beyond Quality First Teaching, we work closely with external agencies, including Educational Pychologists, Send Supported, Speech and Language Therapy and a wide range of health professionals.
Our SEND policy outlines how the needs of children who experience barriers to their learning are identified, and the process that we then follow to ensure every child can achieve their full potential. Every child on the SEND register has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) to ensure their learning is scaffolded into small and achievable steps, removing barriers to success. We also keep a seperate record for children whose needs are being monitored and reviewed, with an eye on potential SEND identification when needed. All registers are working documents and are therefore subject to change along with the needs of the child.
