Online safety support for parents
At Newburgh Primary we want every pupil to enjoy the benefits of the internet while staying safe. We work with families to build practical, age‑appropriate routines and to spot risks early.
What we do
- We use managed filtering and monitoring on school devices and networks and review these systems annually alongside a risk assessment.
- Online safety is part of our curriculum: children learn about content, contact, conduct and commerce online and practise how to respond to worrying situations.
- Staff receive regular training and the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) coordinates any concerns and referrals.
How parents can help at home
- Talk regularly and calmly about what your child does online: which apps, games and sites they use and who they speak with. Use open questions rather than interrogations.
- Use parental controls and privacy settings on devices and services; Internet Matters and London Grid for Learning provide clear, step‑by‑step guides.
- Set boundaries: agree screen times, where devices are used in the home and acceptable behaviour online (including gaming).
- Teach children to protect personal information and to show you anything that upsets or confuses them online.
- If your child shares an explicit image, is bullied or is groomed online, contact the school immediately and report to CEOP where appropriate.
