Miss Gemma Nicol

Class Teacher and Deputy SENDCo

admin2325@welearn365.com

After qualifying, I started my first job here at Newburgh 14 years ago where I have taught in most year groups, but I really enjoy working with our youngest pupils. I joined the SLT team and started my new role as Deputy SENDCo in September 2025.

I am passionate about inclusion and ensuring that children start their school journey in a caring a nurturing environment, where they feel safe to grow and develop.

When I am not at school I am running after my nearly 3-year-old boy and dog. I love listening to live music, dancing and spending time as a family in the garden.
I have a very exciting summer ahead … I am getting married.! As I have been at Newburgh for such a long time, it will be hard for everyone to get used to my new name.

I am privileged to lead a dedicated and passionate team as Headteacher of Newburgh Primary School. We believe each child has unique strengths which we nurture to ensure they are successful citizens of the future.

My role is to build strong, lasting relationships with you as families, my door is always open, so that we can have supportive and forward-thinking interactions to enable your child to thrive and flourish at our school.

In my spare time, I love to walk, run, ride my bike and enjoy the outdoors with my family.
Over the coming weeks, I look forward to sharing coffee and getting to know you at each of our transition events. Welcome to Newburgh!

Since qualifying as a teacher in 2000, I have worked in a number of schools as a teacher and senior leader, developing a breadth of knowledge and skills to support children in all areas of the curriculum. I am passionate about getting the right support at the right time for the children, as well as growing a lifelong love for learning with them and their families.
I have been Deputy Head and SENDCo at Newburgh since September 2024 and feel very fortunate to be part of such a nurturing and aspirational team.
In my spare time, I have two teenagers, two crazy dogs and a very patient husband that keep me grounded! I love to read, spend time in the garden and enjoy time together as a family.
I look forward to working with you and your family over the coming years.
