7-a-side football tournament

19th November 2018

Last Saturday morning following a fantastic team effort, the boys’ 7-a-side football team who won the district finals. This means that the team now go on to represent the Central Warwickshire area in the county finals against the other top school teams for the different areas in the county.
The winners of that upcoming tournament will progress to the Midlands round meaning they will be one step closer to playing in the national finals.

Everyone played their part on the day in some close matches, particularly the semi-final and final, which were both won after a penalty shoot-out. In these shoot-outs Newburgh scored a combined 9 out of 10 penalties (including 5 out of 5 in the final) whilst Will saved 3 penalties combined during the shoot-outs. To pick out individuals would be difficult, but Braydon’s stunning 25-yard volley in the final was a true captains’ strike to bring the score back to 1-1 while George showed nerves of steel to score the winning spot kick in the final.

Well done to all the children who represented Newburgh so well on Saturday and good luck in the next tournament.
